Best Photoshoot Locations in Valencia, Spain

Valencia is one of the most photogenic cities in Spain for all types of photography sessions. With its mix of historic architecture, lush gardens, modern landmarks, and Mediterranean beaches, there’s an incredible variety of backdrops to explore. I’ve photographed across every corner of this beautiful city, and here are some of my favourite locations for creating natural, timeless images.

1. The Old Town (El Carmen & Centro Histórico)

The narrow cobblestone streets of Valencia’s old town create an intimate, timeless atmosphere that works beautifully for most of the sessions. The Plaza de la Virgen, the Cathedral, and the hidden corners of El Carmen are perfect if you’re drawn to that classic European feel. The best time to shoot here is early morning or late afternoon (depending on the time of the year), when the light is softer and the streets are quieter, allowing the architecture and atmosphere to really shine.

2. Jardines de Monforte

These neoclassical gardens are one of Valencia’s best-kept secrets, especially for couples’ photography. With sculpted hedges, classical statues, fountains, and iron gates, Jd de Monforte feels like stepping into a private estate. It’s particularly stunning for engagement sessions and intimate ceremonies — small enough to feel exclusive, but with incredible variety in backgrounds.

4. Playa de la Malvarrosa

Valencia’s main beach offers a sunrise light that’s hard to beat. The wide sandy shore, the sound of waves, and those warm Mediterranean tones make it ideal for relaxed, joyful sessions. Whether you’re barefoot in the sand or walking along the promenade, the beach brings out genuine smiles and a natural connection. I usually recommend sunrise sessions if you’re looking for a quieter, more intimate experience, with soft light and fewer people around. Sunset sessions can sound appealing, but it’s worth keeping in mind that the sun sets behind the buildings rather than over the sea.

3. Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias

If you love modern architecture, the City of Arts and Sciences is unmatched. Santiago Calatrava’s futuristic white structures reflected in still water pools create dramatic, editorial-quality images. I enjoy shooting here at blue hour — the 30 minutes after sunset when the buildings light up and the sky can turn deep blue. This location works beautifully for people who want something bold and contemporary.

5. Jardines del Real (Viveros)

The Royal Gardens (Jardín del Real) are Valencia’s oldest park, offering a timeless setting for your session. The trees create beautiful natural canopies of light and shade, making it a more flexible location for photos throughout the day. This means we can adapt the session timing more easily, using the shade to avoid harsh direct light when the sun is strong. It’s a lovely choice for those who want a relaxed session surrounded by lush greenery, with a calm atmosphere that allows genuine moments to unfold naturally.

4. Playa de la Patacona

Just a little further along the coast, Playa de la Patacona in Alboraya feels like a softer, quieter extension of the city’s shoreline. It has a more laid-back atmosphere, with fewer crowds and a sense of calm that makes it perfect for unhurried sessions. The palm trees add a beautiful touch to the scenery, while the open beach gives you plenty of space to move naturally. It’s also surrounded by lovely brunch spots, so you can easily turn your shoot into a slow, enjoyable morning or afternoon by the sea.

Tips for Your Valencia Photo Session

  • Best time of year: Valencia enjoys over 300 days of sunshine (yay!), Spring (March–May) and Autumn (Sept–Nov) offer the most pleasant temperatures and the softest, most flattering light.
  • Ideal hour for photos: The first hours after sunrise or the late afternoon are ideal for beautiful, even light and a more relaxed atmosphere.
  • What to wear: I provide styling guidance with every booking, so everything feels cohesive and natural in your images.
  • Multi-location sessions: Depending on the session duration, we can explore 2–3 locations. Valencia is compact enough that it’s easy to combine different settings, like the old town and the beach.
