It’s easy to walk around and full of lovely surprises, like the quirky “cat house”, the contemporary art museum Centre del Carme (with free entry), vibrant street art, independent shops, and small fountains where kids can cool off. Stop by the Central Market in the morning for fresh fruit, local snacks, or even a quick wine tasting at lunch. For beautiful views over the city, climb the Miguelete tower or visit the Torres de Serranos, a fun way to let the kids burn off some energy while you enjoy the sights.

2. Explore Local Food (With Kids in Town)

Valencia’s food scene is full of flavour and tradition, and many places are family-friendly. In the old town, Café Infanta is a great spot for delicious tapas. For dessert, try horchata with fartons at Horchatería Daniel or Santa Catalina, or indulge in churros at Chocolatería Valor. Local tip: Don’t miss Gulliver Park — a giant playground shaped like the character from Gulliver’s Travels, complete with slides and climbing areas. It’s one of the most fun spots for younger children!

Valencia’s wide sandy beaches are just 15 minutes from the city centre and ideal for families. Malvarrosa is lively and well-known, while Patacona offers a more laid-back, local feel. Both beaches have shallow waters, plenty of space to play, and beachside restaurants where you can enjoy a meal or drink with your feet in the sand.

In Summer, beaches can get quite hot and busy during the day, but from 5pm onwards, the atmosphere softens. People gather for snacks, bocadillos, and patatas bravas at chiringuitos (small bar/restaurants at the beach), while the kids play in the sand as the sun sets.

Tip: La Más Bonita at Patacona Beach is a favourite for its lovely back terrace, delicious food, and homemade cakes. If you’re near Malvarrosa Beach, I highly recommend visiting Mercabanyal or Mercader Cabanyal — two vibrant markets/food halls offering a fantastic variety of local produce, tapas, and fresh seafood. It’s a great spot to enjoy nice food in a lively and casual atmosphere, perfect for families looking to taste something different and delicious.

5. Discover the City of Arts and Sciences

This futuristic complex is iconic and full of family-friendly activities. Kids love the Oceanogràfic – Europe’s largest aquarium, and the hands-on exhibits at the Museu de les Ciències. Tip: Start your ride from the Torres de Serranos and head east through Turia park, it’s shaded, scenic, and leads straight to the sea passing through Ciutat de Les Arts y Ciencias.
