Personal Branding Gallery: Choosing Photos That are truly useful for you
Creating a gallery that’s beautiful, strategic, and versatile.
When you receive your personal branding gallery, it’s tempting to pick only the photos where you look your best. But here’s the truth: the real power of your gallery isn’t just about beautiful portraits — it’s about choosing images that will work for your brand across all the platforms and touchpoints where people meet you.
Think of your gallery as a content bank. The way you select your favourites can give you purposeful, versatile, and on-brand material to use everywhere — from Instagram posts to website headers, LinkedIn profile photos, to ad campaigns, etc.
Here are some tips on how to make the smartest choices when picking your favourite photos from your gallery:
1.Choose with Strategy, Not Just Emotion
It’s natural to love the photos where you feel most confident, and I love this part of the process, but don’t stop there. Ask yourself: Will this image help me tell my story? Will it connect with my audience? Will it work on the platforms I use most? A photo you might not pick at first glance could be the one that becomes your go-to image for press features, campaigns, content, or product launches.
2. Variety is Your Best Friend
Don’t pick photos that look too similar. Your audience wants to see more than one side of you. Mix it up by choosing:
- Professional portraits (for LinkedIn, press, and website bios)
- Different poses (sitting, standing, walking, etc)
- Lifestyle shots (to show behind-the-scenes, daily routines, or personal touches)
- Action shots (typing, writing, leading, creating, speaking, video call)
- Detail images (books, coffee, desk, tools of your trade)
The wider your selection, the more content you’ll have at your fingertips.

3. Think in Platforms and Formats
Every platform has different needs:
- Website headers need wide shots with negative space for text (usually horizontal)
- Instagram feed thrives on eye-catching or inspiring photos (mostly vertical)
- Stories/Reels love more playful, relaxed, and varied angles.
- Ads and newsletters benefit from images with clean backgrounds and space for design/text elements.
Choosing photos with these uses in mind will save you a lot of stress later.
4. Look for Content-Friendly Shots
Some photos are taken with extra “room to breathe” — like images with blank walls, blurred backgrounds, extra space on the sides or you positioned off-centre. These are perfect for adding titles, announcements, or campaign text. Think of them as your ready-made marketing material.
5. Show Up as You, Through Every Photo
Personal branding photos are more than portraits — they’re a reflection of who you are and how you want to be seen. When making your selection, choose images that truly align with your values and the message you want your audience to remember.
A great way to guide your choices is to pick 3 to 5 words that represent what you want to communicate through your photos. For example: confident, creative, approachable, trustworthy, authoritative, etc. Let these words become your filter when selecting images.
Your outfits and location also play a big role in how your brand is perceived. Clothes that feel too formal (or too casual) can send the wrong message (and you might end up not using them). That’s why the planning stage of your session is so important. I’m always available to guide my clients through this process to make sure their photos feel authentic and aligned with the story they want to tell.

💡 Pro tip: Think of your gallery as a strategy toolkit, not just a collection of pretty portraits.
The best selections are the ones that give you variety, purpose, and a story to tell across every platform. Make sure to also select images of details, objects, diferent angles, etc. These can make your content more interesting and inspiring.
